Remote Work: Environmental, Social & Economic Opportunities and Risks

The Alberta Energy Efficiency Alliance (AEEA) and its members, RFS Energy Consulting, SAIT and Dunsky Energy Consulting worked with the City of Edmonton through the CitiesIPCC Legacy grant to assess the positive and negative impacts of instituting work-from-home policies through an environmental, social and economic lens. Telework can support municipalities in reaching climate targets through reduced energy use relating to both transportation and buildings.

The research included a comprehensive scan of implementing a work-from-home policy, calculations for potential GHG emissions reductions from increased telecommuting, recommendations for energy efficiency/conservation education strategies, and best practices.
